Last year I posted my year-end review from WordPress. This year, they sent another, though it looks a bit different. Figured I’d share it for any who are interested. Happy New Year.

One of my best friends has a fantastic eye and is incredibly gifted with several artistic media; whether it’s drawing, painting, sculpture, writing, or photography, I’m blown away by his creativity.
Recently, he had a few prints displayed in a local gallery. He asked a few writer friends to contribute a poem, short story, description, or anything else they saw fit for the prints. I was one of the writers he asked. Although it’s a lot different than the writing I typically do, I felt lucky to be a part of his project.

Just finished editing through some photos from the last month and thought I’d upload them. A few shots of San Francisco at night (in case you missed this post’s title) and dusk. Lots of fireworks. It’s kind of low-hanging fruit to do firework pictures, but I think a well-shot firework is pretty incredible looking.

A few nights back, San Francisco was pretty foggy–no surprise, there. I have one of the coolest views in the city right out my window so I did a few test shots, varying only in exposure length. I find the drastic shift pretty cool: the first shot is pretty much how things look to the naked eye. And the last shot is so bright that it almost looks like daytime. Anyway, they haven’t been color corrected or anything. Tell me what you think:
Since I first saw them up close when I was 18, I’ve thought the front gates of Wrigley Field were smaller in person than they look in movies and on TV. I thought a tilt-shift picture might capture it the way I see it.

Bay2Breakers is a delightful all-day drunkfest where participants dress up in costume (or go naked if they’re males over-50, apparently) and stumble across the city of San Francisco to the ocean. For me the day was not only rewarding, but a challenge as well.

I took this three minute long exposure one night when I was biking around San Francisco. Upon closer examination, I’m convinced that I may have actually been in an earthquake: the foreground (tree, dock, cement wall) are all perfectly clear while the background elements (Alcatraz, Oakland) have a noticeable vertical blur. What would account for this? Well, I think the ground I was standing on may have moved slightly. This would have been imperceptible in the foreground, but background elements would have appear to have an exponential shift. So there you have it: the physics on why I was probably in an earthquake. That, or it was human error… And an earthquake seems far more likely.
Either way, I still think it looks pretty neat.
